Born and raised in Lebanon, Gilbert Halaby has been drawing and painting since childhood. Captivated by the natural beauty of Mount Lebanon, he spent long hours playing in the woods among olive groves and pine trees, whose forms have continuously influenced his work and played a profound role in shaping his art.

After studying archaeology at the Lebanese University in Beirut, Halaby’s aesthetic eye led him to Rome, where he moved in 2003. He was instantly captivated by the city, calling that first encounter a coup de foudre. There, the self-taught artist made Via di Monserrato his creative hub, where he paints and hosts a cultural salon.

Halaby debuted in 2023 with a solo exhibition, Domus Berytus, at Beit Beirut in Lebanon. His second solo exhibition, Une Comédie Romaine, took place in Rome, at Maja Arte Contemporanea Gallery (2023). His third, Will You Wait for Me Under That Pine Tree?, opened in 2024 in Abu Dhabi at ArtBooth Gallery, followed by Apogee of Light (Palm Beach, Maja Arte Contemporanea). In 2024, he also had a solo show, The First Harvest, at the IAMY Museum in Hydra, Greece, and, in 2025, Sonnet V opened at Marie-Jose Gallery in South Kensington, London.

Gilbert Halaby’s work is part of important private collections, as well as the permanent collections of the Med-Or Foundation, the Orestiadi Foundation, the Museum of Mediterranean Wefts, and the Malvina Menegaz Foundation in Italy; the Kinda Foundation in Saudi Arabia; and the Lebanese Presidential Contemporary Collection.
